Yakima Valley Wineries

Sip, Wander, Stay Awhile

For more than 40 years, the Yakima Valley has been Washington’s wine source and has been home to more than 1/3 of the state’s vineyards. Winemakers from throughout Washington and beyond value the exceptional grapes cultivated in Valley vineyards, and that quality comes through in every glass during a tour of Yakima Valley wineries.

A visit to Yakima Valley Wine Country offers more than world-class wines. Guests also find an easygoing pace, an unpretentious character and an approachable atmosphere that invites curiosity and exploration regardless of their starting level of wine knowledge. One moment might bring a tasting with the winemaker; the next, a walk among the vines. Above all, visitors experience the simple feeling of being welcome.

Plan a Perfect Wine Tasting Tour

More than 90 wineries stretch across 70 short miles, giving visitors plenty of ways to shape a wine tasting tour. More than 60 tasting rooms are open for visits, organized among five distinct wine areas around the Valley. Build a day trip, a weekend or a longer stay around one area at a time, or travel across the Valley from stop to stop.

Featured Wineries

Yakima Wine Area

Start at the Valley’s northwest end, where 10 winery stops are located in and around town. Taste a flight at wineries set on a volcanic plateau or positioned above Valley orchards, then continue through Union Gap for premier sparkling wines and broad views of the mountains and Valley.

Zillah and the Rattlesnake Hills Wine Area

The distinctive Zillah and Rattlesnake Hills region includes ridgetop vineyards rising more than 3,000 feet in elevation. Its altitude and unusual geology support the production of world-class grapes. The area contains 1,800 vine acres and more than 20 wineries, with specialties including cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah, chardonnay and riesling.

Prosser Wine Area

Known as the birthplace of Washington’s wine industry, this charming town has about 20 wineries, including nine that can be reached on foot from one another. In only a few square miles, visitors can sample every varietal produced in Washington, from Albariño to Zinfandel. Grassy spaces nearby, just steps from the wineries, create an ideal setting for afternoon sipping and a picnic.

Red Mountain Wine Area

Red Mountain covers 4,540 acres, making it one of Washington’s smallest and warmest wine grape growing regions. Diverse geology, a gradual southern slope, steady winds and a complex blend of rare, highly valued soils come together in this intimate growing region. These conditions produce red wine grapes that are highly prized for wines of superb concentration and depth.

Columbia Gorge Wine Area

The Columbia Gorge Wine Area offers gorgeous views of the Columbia River Gorge, including beautiful river vistas unavailable in any other Yakima Valley wine tasting region.
