A History Happy Hour with the Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association

The Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association and the Yakima Valley Library will return to Gilbert Cellars Winery for another History Happy Hour.

On October 8th, the program will examine a chapter of Mexican history centered on the Maximilians’ reign of terror in Mexico. Carlos, the archivist at the Yakima Valley Library, will discuss Maximilian and Carlota, European aristocrats who unexpectedly rose to power in Mexico before encountering bloody consequences.

During the 1860s, Napoleon Ill sought to limit the growth of American imperialism. He convinced a young Austrian archduke and a Belgian princess to leave Europe and assume the roles of emperor and empress of Mexico.

This is one of two events Carlos is presenting for Hispanic Heritage Month, bringing history into the community. Both programs offer opportunities to connect, ask questions, and take part in the conversation. Attendees can also receive a free library card.

Bilingual Bibliotheca will collect donations of Spanish-Language books for their literary project.
