Community Celebration

Día de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, is a colorful community gathering that honors los muertos while celebrating the beauty of life. The tradition began in Central America and draws from both indigenous and Catholic practices. Sweet sugar skulls, vivid colors, and the bitter scent of cempazuchitl (calendula, or marigold) flowers express the vibrancy and fleeting nature of life alongside the unavoidable reality of death.

Every year, Tieton Arts & Humanities builds a large community altar and welcomes everyone to contribute. Guests may bring photographs of loved ones, written messages, mementos, candies, or breads. The altar offers a meaningful way to remember special people in our lives who are no longer with us.

The 2026 celebration takes place Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 12 to 5 pm at Mighty Tieton Warehouse, 608 Wisconsin Ave Tieton, WA 98947.

The Día De Los Muertos Exhibition is on view from October 25 to November 15, 2026 at the Mighty Tieton Warehouse.

Gallery Hours

Fridays and Saturdays 12 to 5 pm or by appointment.
