Visit Corpus Christi

A Three-Day Family Adventure in Corpus Christi

Plan three days of family fun across the Gulf Coast Capital, combining favorite attractions, hands-on experiences, beach outings, outdoor exploration, games, and plenty of good food. This Corpus Christi family itinerary keeps each day varied while highlighting kid-approved places to visit and eat.

Day One: Discover Corpus Christi Attractions

Explore the Texas State Aquarium

Begin at the Texas State Aquarium, home to more than 250 species, immersive exhibits, and hands-on activities for curious kids. Children can climb, crawl, and play in the Ocean Odyssey indoor play area, or pack swimsuits for the H-E-B Splash Park. On Saturdays and Sundays, families can visit the Wildlife Rescue Center for a behind-the-scenes view of the rehabilitation and care of sea turtles, marine mammals, birds, and other wildlife.

When it's time to eat, there is no need to leave the Aquarium. Families can choose quick options such as burgers and hot dogs or sit-down favorites like mac and cheese and barbecue.

Tour the USS Lexington

Drive a short distance to the USS Lexington Museum, then climb aboard the historic WWII aircraft carrier. Walk across the flight deck and see aircraft up close before trying interactive attractions such as flight simulators, virtual battle stations, and escape rooms. Guided tours also take families through various parts of the ship while sharing more about life aboard the USS Lexington and its history.

Have Dinner at Brewster Street

End the day at the Downtown location of Brewster Street Icehouse. Burgers, live music, and a relaxed atmosphere make it a comfortable dinner stop after a busy day. Families who want to explore another area can also visit the Southside or Padre Island locations, which provide the same great food and laid-back energy in different surroundings.

Day Two: Enjoy Island Adventures

Spend the Morning at Michael J. Ellis Beach

Start the second day at Michael J. Ellis Beach & Seawall. Paved parking makes unloading beach equipment simple, and the seawall offers another way for families to stroll beside the coast. Convenient showers also make rinsing off after beach time easier.

Nearby, Sandbox Beach Bar adds food, drinks, live music, pickleball, sand volleyball, a playground, and space to relax together before moving on to the next activity.

Eat Lunch on Sunset Island

For a casual waterfront meal, visit Snoopy's Pier on Sunset Island and look out over the Laguna Madre. The menu includes old-fashioned seafood favorites, while the Gulf breeze and waterside views add to the experience.

Save room for dessert at Scoopy's Veranda next door. Its handcrafted treats use Blue Bell Ice Cream. Try the Chocolate Barnacle, made with a sugar cookie bottom, a cookies and cream ice cream middle, and frozen chocolate mousse on top. Families can also share the delicious banana split served in a waffle cone bowl.

Pick a Family Competition

Continue the afternoon with some friendly rivalry. Treasure Island Golf & Games offers an outdoor pirate-themed mini-golf course as well as an indoor arcade. Another option is a short drive to Flour Bluff and In The Game Funtrackers, where families can race go-karts, compete on bumper boats, play mini golf, or choose from more than 80 arcade games indoors.

Day Three: Experience More of the City

Begin With a Corpus Christi Favorite

Start Day Three with breakfast at Andy's Country Kitchen, a family-style restaurant serving homemade country cooking in a retro diner atmosphere. Breakfast is available all day along with traditional favorites. Keep an eye out for the complimentary blueberry muffins before the meal arrives, and look up to see model trains traveling on tracks around the ceiling of the dining room.

Explore the Botanical Gardens

Set aside plenty of time for the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, where gardens, animals, trails, and interactive experiences offer something for the whole family. Visit the 2,600-square-foot Butterfly House, see more than 60 resident reptiles in the Reptile Room, and watch for parrots, tortoises, native birds, and alligators at Gator Lake.

Families can follow the Mary Hope Brennecke Nature Trail to the Bird Tower, walk along the Wetland Awareness Boardwalk, and explore gardens featuring orchids, plumerias, roses, tropical plants, and more. Because the grounds include so much to see, this is a stop that rewards a leisurely visit.

Cool Down With a Creative Dessert

After spending the day outdoors, choose a dessert experience that goes beyond an ordinary treat. Mamako Café serves Asian-inspired sweets including character ice cream cones, mochi ice cream, Kakigori (Japanese shaved ice topped with your choice of flavor), and fish-shaped Taiyaki with sweet or savory fillings.

Ninja Mochi is another option, with colorful mochi donuts, flavored teas, boba, Korean corn dogs, and Tanghulu (candy sugar shell coated fruit skewers).

Watch a Hooks Game

If baseball season coincides with your visit, check the Corpus Christi Hooks schedule to see whether the team has a home game. The Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros offers more than baseball: its kids zone includes a rock-climbing wall, little league field, basketball court, and playground. The ballpark also has an on-site Whataburger and plenty of other stadium food.

Before leaving, browse the gift shops for souvenirs. Families attending a Friday home game can stay after the final out to see Friday Fireworks over Corpus Christi Bay.

Three days can begin a family adventure, but Corpus Christi offers plenty more for a future visit. Bring a four-legged travel companion on a dog-friendly Corpus Christi getaway, or follow a Corpus Christi budget itinerary for affordable ways to enjoy the coast. No matter how you travel, another side of the Gulf Coast Capital is always ready to be explored.
