Are Corpus Christi beaches open?

Yes. Corpus Christi beaches are open year-round and offer something for everyone. For a traditional Gulf beach experience, try North Packery Beach or Michael J. Ellis Beach & Seawall. Families may prefer Bay Beaches such as McGee Beach or North Beach. For a more remote outing, consider Padre Island National Seashore or Mustang Island State Park.

What are today’s beach conditions?

Corpus Christi averages 223 sunny days, although conditions can shift quickly. Before leaving, review NOAA's weather report and check the live beach cameras to see whether conditions are suitable for your beach day.

Can I drive on the beach, and is a permit required?

Driving is permitted on the Gulf Beaches. Follow the rules of the road, avoid the dunes, and obtain a beach parking permit before arriving. Most Gulf Beaches are maintained, while some are not; 4WD is recommended in those locations, and driving in the sand is at your own risk.

Beach parking permit stickers cost $12 and can be purchased year-round at:

Where can I access Corpus Christi beaches?

Beach access ranges from the Gulf Beaches on North Padre Island to the Bay Beaches in Downtown Corpus Christi. The Beaches page can help you choose a location that suits your plans. Individual beach pages provide maps showing each beach’s location and access points.

Are paved parking lots available?

Yes. The Windward Parking Lot at Michael J. Ellis Beach & Seawall on North Padre Island offers free parking, clean facilities, showers, and dressing rooms. Paved parking is also available near McGee Beach and North Beach in the Downtown and Bayfront area. Parking there is free, and no parking permit is needed.

Where are lifeguards stationed?

Mobile lifeguards patrol most Gulf Beaches, though some beaches and sections of shoreline do not have active lifeguard coverage. The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s full lifeguard schedule provides additional information about coverage and mobile patrols throughout the year.

Are dogs permitted on the beach?

Dogs are welcome on all Corpus Christi beaches, provided they remain on a leash or under verbal command. Pet-friendly beaches accommodate pets and dogs of all shapes and sizes.

Dogs are off-limits to dogs on all major holidays. During those periods, take your pups to Padre Balli Park instead.

Where are restrooms and showers located?

Every beach provides permanent restrooms or portable toilets for public use. Most locations also offer showers or rinse areas. Beach-specific pages include maps identifying bathroom, shower, and rinse-area locations.

How should I dispose of trash?

Complimentary trash bags are available at the downtown Visitor Information Center and in the blue boxes positioned at beach entrances along all access roads. The bags are designed to stay in place rather than blow down the shoreline. Trash cans are located at every beach entrance and throughout the beach. Please help leave the beaches in better condition for the next visitor.

Are bonfires, campfires, and beach camping allowed?

Bonfires, campfires, and camping are permitted in certain areas along the beach. Follow these general requirements:

• Keep bonfires and campfires no larger than 3’ x 3’ x 3’, and leave no residue behind.
• Extinguish bonfires and campfires completely, then fill any holes.
• Do not camp in front of condos or hotels.
• Camping may continue for 3 days & nights consecutively, but it cannot exceed 6 days within a month.
• Pallets and building materials are prohibited. Wood pallets and construction materials may be coated with toxic chemicals unsuitable for campfires and may include nails or screws that pose risks to people or wildlife.

Grocery stores along the route to the beach carry bonfire and campfire supplies. Additional camping hot tips are also available.

Is alcohol allowed on Corpus Christi beaches?

Alcohol may be consumed on Corpus Christi beaches by people of legal age, 21 years and older. Glass containers are prohibited, so use aluminum cans or plastic containers instead. Drink responsibly.
