Review the Conditions

Before entering the water, consult the local beach forecast and ask a lifeguard about current conditions. Real-time information about tides, currents, and weather forecasts is available through noaa.gov and the live beach cameras. Lifeguards on duty can also provide safety guidance.

Choose a Lifeguarded Area

When you can, swim where a lifeguard is present. The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department provides a complete lifeguard schedule showing locations with lifeguard coverage and mobile patrol throughout the year. Call 911 in an emergency.

Pay Attention to Beach Flags

Beach flags communicate information about water conditions, surf dangers, and marine hazards. Check the flags posted at the beach before you go into the water, since they reflect the current swimming conditions. Knowing what the warnings mean can help prevent accidents.

Do Not Rely on the Weather Alone
