Visit Corpus Christi Funding Sources
Visit Corpus Christi is an internationally accredited 501c6 Destination Management Organization contracted by the city of Corpus Christi to promote travel and tourism. A 17-member Board of Directors manages the Organization, whose mission is Strengthening the Community by Sharing Corpus Christi with the World.
VCC receives no public funds. Its operating support comes primarily from two visitor-funded sources tied to overnight accommodations.
Hotel Occupancy Tax
Per state statute, the city of Corpus Christi levies a 7% Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) on overnight stays at hotels and short-term rentals. VCC receives 44% of that tax.
Tourism Public Improvement District
Hotels within the city limits that have over 40 rooms established a Tourism Public Improvement District (TPID) beginning August 1, 2022. The TPID applies a 2% assessment to overnight stays, with VCC receiving 100% for marketing and sales initiatives.
The Economic Impact of Tourism
Visit Corpus Christi provides additional information about tourism’s economic impact and the ROI generated for Corpus Christi through its Annual Report and the video titled The Economic Impact of Tourism.
