Visit The Outer Banks

State Parks & Sites Across the Outer Banks

Find Outer Banks attractions and outdoor adventures that range from scenic parks to local experiences.

The Outer Banks has been formed by wind and water, with its identity tied closely to the natural forces around it. Its State Parks and State-recognized attractions show how local history and the elements are woven together.

The NC Aquarium at Roanoke Island and Jennette’s Pier offer a closer look at the fish and sea life that support and inspire the coast. The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum shares another side of the story, using artifacts and information connected to the thousands of shipwrecks off our coast. Though it functions as transportation, the NC Ferry System is also a major part of the experience, moving passengers and vehicles between Hatteras and Ocracoke and to places farther on. The ferries reflect both the culture and natural heritage of the OBX.

On land, visitors can move into the past with the beauty of Elizabethan Gardens, then take in the story of the first English settlers at Roanoke Island Festival Park. The Outer Banks continues its relationship with the elements at Jockey’s Ridge State Park, one of the State’s most visited attractions and home to the East Coast’s tallest natural sand dune – an ideal setting for the hang-gliding classes and events held there each year. It is also a great spot to fly a kite.
