Halloween Family Fun on the Outer Banks of North Carolina
From pumpkin patches and parades to trick-or-treating and haunted attractions, the Outer Banks offers plenty of ways to enjoy Halloween with the family.
A Spooky Outer Banks Autumn
Graveyard of the Atlantic, Kill Devil Hills, and Ghosts of The Lost Colony are names that give the OBX an unmistakably eerie character. Across the Outer Banks, visitors will find hauntingly memorable events and sights to explore, along with the top reasons why we are Fired Up For Fall.
For a gentler seasonal outing, visit a farm on Saturdays in October. Take a hayride to the farm’s pumpkin patch and choose a pumpkin to bring home during Pumpkin Patch Saturdays. Continue the autumn experience with a visit to Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. The Museum highlights the many shipwrecks scattered along the OBX shoreline and presents programming throughout the year for visitors of all ages. Every day, families and young visitors can participate in a scavenger hunt, looking for objects throughout the Museum and receiving a special surprise for their efforts. The Museum also unveils a new exhibit annually.
Halloween Events and Attractions
Explore the mysteries of Halloweentown and encounter the ghosts of pirates in the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Children can also trick-or-treat at booths hosted by local businesses and organizations, where surprises await. As the season approaches, watch for additional Trick-or-Treat events throughout the community. OBX insiders tip: Don't miss the scarily delicious monster-themed Duck Donuts.
Gather friends and family to welcome fall at Island Farm. During the first four Saturdays in October, Island Farm will host its annual Pumpkin Patch event.
Year-Round Family Fun
There is no need to wait until October for family activities. Hunt for ghost crabs along the beach (#11 on our Bucket List), or join OBX Ghost Tours. A guide leads visitors by lantern through downtown Manteo while sharing the spooky stories that have helped make the Outer Banks one of the most haunted beaches in America. Whether you believe the stories or not, OBX Ghost Tours offers an entertaining outing. Book now for the time of your afterlife!
The Dare to Scare 5K & Sweet Treat Fun Run is another seasonal option. This rain or shine event takes place at the Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese at the Dare County Center.
