Overlook Hall, a Historic Hillside Landmark on Catalina Island
Set high on a hillside along upper Whitley Ave in Avalon, Overlook Hall looks out across the Pacific Ocean. Built in 1929 for the Christian Science Society as its church and gathering place, the structure was created with the character of an Italian chapel. It was designed by Hans Wllner of Webber & Spaulding, the architectural firm also responsible for Catalina's majestic Casino building. Notable features include its brick facade, open beam ceiling, and broad deck.
For 60 years, the property served as a church. It was acquired and completely remodeled in 2010-2011, then given the name Overlook Hall and reopened as an event venue for wedding and small meetings.
In 2017, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
