Catalina Island Yacht Club on Casino Way
A plaque displayed outside Catalina Island Yacht Club on Casino Way explains the club’s place in Avalon Bay history.
According to the plaque, Catalina Island Yacht Club has served as a welcoming landmark in Avalon Bay since the clubhouse was finished in 1924. It is described as one of the oldest and most unique yacht clubs in Southern California, with a heritage closely tied to the lore and traditions of Catalina Island.
The plaque notes that community organizations and members from across the Western United States continue to gather there for hospitality and fellowship, united by their shared affection for Catalina Island and the City of Avalon.
The clubhouse was constructed and has been cared for by its members. It has operated continuously since completion, with the exception of the war years of 1942-1945, when the Merchant Marine used the building as a training center. The clubhouse was returned to its membership in late 1945.
