Catalina Island Country Club

The Spanish inspired building that once served as the clubhouse for William Wrigley Jr.'s Chicago Cubs is used today by the Catalina Island Golf Course and also welcomes a variety of special events.

For 30 years, from 1921-1951, except for a short interruption during the war years, William Wrigley Jr., an early owner of the Santa Catalina Island Company, brought the Chicago Cubs to Catalina Island for spring training. The island’s baseball field was designed with the same dimensions as Wrigley Field in Chicago. A clubhouse was added as a place for team lockers and as a gathering spot for the players. Nineteen Hall-of-Fame players trained with the Cubs on Catalina Island, among them Grover Cleveland Alexander, Dizzy Dean, Roger Hornsby, Joe McCarthy and Hack Wilson.

Today, the field where the Chicago Cubs once played is marked only by a nearby plaque, but the historic clubhouse continues to be part of island life. Now known as the Catalina Island Country Club, the building contains the pro shop and lockers for the Catalina Island Golf Course. After many years operating as a restaurant, it is currently available for weddings and events. Its original bar remains in place and features a substantial display of Chicago Cubs memorabilia.
