Flying to Catalina Island
Catalina Island can be reached by air in two ways: daily helicopter transportation from mainland Southern California, or private aircraft service into Airport in the Sky. Commercial airline service is not available to Catalina Island.
Private Aircraft
Set 1,602 feet above the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island’s Airport-In-The-Sky sits in the island’s interior, about 10 miles from Avalon. Its paved runway measures 3,000 feet.
The airport is owned and managed by the Catalina Island Conservancy, which applies a landing fee for private aircraft using the facility. Overnight tie-downs are offered. The Conservancy also runs the Wildlands Express shuttle between Avalon and the airport. For current service details and fees, contact the airport at 310-510-0143.
