A Dream Fulfilled

Jason and Hannah Schoneman founded Steel Toe Brewing after Jason’s home-brewing hobby—and Hannah’s frustration with bedroom fermentation—grew into a serious plan for a brewery. With Hannah’s encouragement, Jason pursued brewing education and professional experience. He worked at Lightning Boy Brewery in MT before completing a 3-month Diploma Course at the World Brewing Academy. After graduating, he joined Pelican Pub and Brewery in OR and spent 4 years advancing to Head Brewer.

In November of 2009, Jason and Hannah returned to the Midwest to complete their brewery plans. Following 10 years of dreaming, Steel Toe Brewing opened in August of 2011, with the taproom following in early 2013.

The brewery’s name comes from Jason’s long history of wearing steel toed boots at work. Those boots represent hard work to him. For others, their “steel toes” may be something else: the accomplishment that makes a great craft beer feel like a deserved end-of-day reward.

The Brewery

Steel Toe Brewing is an award-winning family craft brewery with ambitious plans to remain small. Its lineup includes seven year-round brews, several barrel-aged monsters that return regularly and several seasonals. The brewery sells pints, sampler trays, 750ml bottles and growlers.

The spacious indoor taproom offers a place to gather with friends. During the summer, guests can also use the covered outdoor patio. Local food trucks appear throughout the year on a frequent and regularly scheduled basis.

Event Space

Small-group reservations are available for as many as 25 people on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Fridays and Saturdays are not available for reservations.
