Cross-Country Skiing
Minnesota’s Sweet Spot! is home to some of the state’s best cross-country skiing, with groomed routes and memorable winter landscapes.
Theodore Wirth Regional Park
As the host site for World Cup cross-county skiing, Theodore Wirth provides miles of groomed and single-track trails. Skate-style and classical skiers can both find suitable terrain, ranging from open stretches with spectacular views of downtown Minneapolis to wooded routes beside scenic lakes.
North Wirth Park offers about 8 miles of groomed trail, with beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain, including snowmaking trails.
South Wirth Park has options for every ability level and features about 6 miles of natural snow trails.
Skiing at Theodore Wirth requires a ski pass. The Natural Snow Ski Pass suits skiers using only naturally snow-covered routes. It covers North Wirth and South Wirth Trails, apart from the snowmaking/lighted areas: the Hap Lutter Snowmaking Loop, Judy Lutter Loop and the Twin Lake Trail. The All-Access Ski Pass covers every trail at Wirth, including snowmaking trails, along with other routes in the Minneapolis Parks trail system. Day and season passes can both be purchased online.
For food and drinks before or after skiing, visit The Trailhead Café powered by Aki’s BreadHaus. Fresh bread anchors the café’s high-quality menu, while the beverage selection includes offerings from Broken Clock Brewing Cooperative and Curioso Coffee. Menu choices include snacks, salads, sandwiches, coffee, sodas, beer and wine.
Brookview
Brookview’s summer golf course transforms during winter into a welcoming cross-country skiing destination. The City grooms a one-mile, multi-use, natural snow recreational trail that winds through the course. Traditional cross-country ski grooves mark the route, which opens when snow conditions are appropriate and remains maintained through late February. Solar LED lights extend use beyond sunset. Skijoring, snowshoeing, fat tire biking and winter walking are also permitted on the trail.
For a meal or a warm drink, visit the Three One Six Bar + Grill. Guests can enjoy sweeping golf-course views, family-friendly food and a full bar serving craft brews. The outdoor fire pit is a place to warm up with a cozy cocktail, including the creamy chocolate mint cocoa made with peppermint schnapps.
Ski Rentals
For ski rentals, visit Hoigaard’s in St. Louis Park. Rossignol rental skis are available for adults and children, and every rental includes skis, boots and poles. Classic and skate-style skis are offered, with rental periods available by the day, the weekend, or the week.
Hooigaard’s also carries an excellent selection of cross-country and downhill skis for purchase, in addition to snowshoes, snowboards and winter apparel.
