About Lawn Bowling
Brookview is home to the largest lawn bowling green in Minnesota!
Like bocce ball, lawn bowling takes place on a broad rectangular green marked with parallel playing strips. Participants roll bowls—weighted, ball-like objects with flattened sides—toward a jack, which is a small white ball. The goal is to finish with your bowl as near to the jack as possible. It’s a leisurely, enjoyable activity for people of all ages.
How to Play
Begin by rolling the jack onto the rink; it must travel at least halfway across the playing area. Players then alternate turns, sending their bowls toward the jack. Once the round concludes, the team with the bowl or bowls closest to the jack earns the points. The direction of play changes after every round. The winning team is the first to score 21 points.
Important Rules
- The green may only be used in flat-soled shoes, socks, or bare feet.
- Only the bowler whose turn is active may step onto the green.
- Roll the jack and bowls rather than tossing or dropping them.
- You may hit another player’s bowl with your own as a strategic move. Don’t be a tosser!
Rink Rentals
From April through October, lawn bowling rinks can be rented by the hour. Individuals and groups may reserve a single rink up to seven days ahead. For private events, groups can book one rink, half of the green, or the entire green.
Three One Six Bar + Grill
At Brookview, the Three One Six Bar + Grill offers burgers, sandwiches and brews to enjoy before, during, or after lawn bowling. Guests can unwind beside the outdoor fire pit while taking in sweeping views of the golf course.
