Craft Classes

Minnesota’s Sweet Spot is home to a range of enjoyable classes for crafty people of every experience level.

Fired Up Studios

Ever dreamed of recreating the iconic pottery scene from Ghost? Fired Up Studios cannot guarantee a supernatural experience, but its “Clay Date” offers plenty of hands-on fun. The studio welcomes clay artists and potters at all skill levels who want to experiment and create.

During a Clay Date, participants try the pottery wheel, work directly with the clay, and receive guidance from Fired Up’s instructors as they shape an individual pot. The studio supplies the necessary tools, buckets, and towels, then completes, fires, and glazes each pot in the participant’s selected glaze. It is a good fit for couples, friends, and small groups.

Clay Dates are generally available on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Because enrollment is limited and sessions may fill quickly, advance booking is recommended.

Needle & Skein

Needle & Skein is a full-service yarn shop with classes and knit-alongs designed for all abilities. Offerings range from introductory knitting and crochet to more specialized techniques. Anyone returning to a craft after time away can arrange a one-on-one lesson with one of the shop’s skilled instructors.

Wednesday evenings feature a guided Stitch-A-Long for knitters and crocheters. Participants bring their existing abilities, while Needle & Skein provides the project and a welcoming group experience. Stitch-A-Longs are free when supplies are purchased, and the shop begins a fresh project each month.

For help troubleshooting a project, visit one of the shop’s many Knit Fix sessions. The instructors can help resolve the issue and get the project moving again.

Skylab Glass Arts

Explore your artistic side at Skylab Glass Arts, a contemporary lampworking and glass arts studio in Golden Valley. Lampworking is a form of glassblowing in which a fixed-mounted torch melts and shapes glass into the desired design.

With safety glasses in place, students work at a torch and learn how to form colored glass into items such as pendants, wine stoppers, drinking straws, and more. Everyone who takes a class gets to keep their finished pieces and leaves with a handmade souvenir.
