Dine Like a Local in Minnesota’s Sweet Spot
In Westopolis, the most memorable meals are often found at the established favorites that keep bringing local diners back—not necessarily at the newest openings.

St. Louis Park and Golden Valley offer an appealing range of independent restaurants, from deeply rooted neighborhood institutions to newer destinations with devoted regulars. For a laid-back burger, a weekend brunch, or an easy dinner shared with friends, these are the restaurants locals return to.
The Classics
These enduring neighborhood restaurants have earned their staying power by welcoming regulars year after year.
Bunny’s Bar & Grill
For more than 80 years, Bunny’s has been a St. Louis Park neighborhood institution. The restaurant serves hearty breakfast, lunch, and dinner and is known for one of the west metro’s busiest brunch scenes. More than 30 TVs make it a popular game-day destination. Diners can choose from burgers, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, soups, and salads, with over 20 beers on tap. Local favorites include their take on the Bootlegger and “Bunny” Mary.
Bonus: Weekday hours extend to midnight, while weekend service runs until 1 am.
JJ’s Clubhouse
JJ’s has long been a Golden Valley gathering spot, with 23 TVs, an energetic bar, and a classic American menu. The offerings include burgers, cheese curds, pizzas, and numerous weekend brunch choices. Big Ole’ Bloody Marys and screwmosas are local staples. Daily happy hours and a popular warm-weather patio add to its appeal.
Park Tavern
A St. Louis Park staple for more than 60 years, Park Tavern combines dining with entertainment and is a favorite place to watch games. Wall-to-wall TVs fill the dining room, while the spacious outdoor patio also has TVs during the warmer months, allowing guests to enjoy the fresh air without missing the action.
The experience goes beyond sports: visitors can bowl, play arcade games, throw darts, or spend time on the lively patio. The menu includes award-winning burgers, made-to-order pizzas, sandwiches, and familiar pub favorites. Summer brings live music, bocce ball, cornhole, and a steady neighborhood crowd to the patio.
Schullers Tavern
Schullers, known as “The Last Real Roadhouse,” has served Golden Valley since 1929. Its tavern-style burgers are a signature, particularly the Minnesota classic Juicy Lucy. The menu also features wings and pizza, and the updated patio provides another place to gather. In the colder months, Saturday-night live bands reinforce the restaurant’s classic neighborhood character.
Bonus: Schullers is home to MN’s smallest liquor store!
Yangtze Chinese
Yangtze is a longtime local favorite, especially for its weekend dim sum brunch, one of the few offerings of its kind in the west metro. The menu spans dumplings, steamed buns, and a broad selection of Hunan, Szechuan, Cantonese, and Mandarin dishes.
The Newer Favorites (and Local Standouts)
Some of these restaurants are relatively new, while others have only recently come onto more people’s radar; all have developed loyal local followings.
Best of India
Best of India is a St. Louis Park hidden gem that has served carefully crafted food since 2005. Each dish is prepared fresh with close attention to spice, flavor, and balance. Diners will find tandoori specialties, curries, and a substantial range of vegetarian and vegan options.
Good Day Café
A Golden Valley brunch favorite since 2007, Good Day Café welcomes guests with a creative breakfast menu and inviting atmosphere. Omelets, waffles, crepes, baked goods, and the famous apple soufflé pancake featured on Food Network’s Best. Breakfast. Ever. are among the highlights.
Kip’s Irish Pub
Since 2005, Kip’s has been a lively place to gather in Golden Valley, pairing Irish classics with contemporary pub fare. Choices include shepherd’s pie, fish & chips, short ribs, sandwiches, and salads. The spacious setting includes a large seasonal patio and fire pit.
The Block Food + Drink
The Block has been part of St. Louis Park since opening in 2019 and has built a local following around its casual atmosphere, broasted chicken, and boozy shakes. Its year-round dog-friendly “paw-tio” and emphasis on community are also part of the draw.
Yum! Kitchen & Bakery
Chef Patti Soskin’s approach centers on building traditions by sharing meals. This cozy Golden Valley café and bakery has been a made-from-scratch staple since 2005. Its menu features soups, salads, sandwiches, and entrées such as roast chicken and salmon, plus baked goods including cookies, cupcakes, and the famous “Patticake.”
